Navigators and other applications


Navigators

Navigators are small programs which make it possible to display internet pages on your computer, including text, images, sound or other interactive contents present on the greatest network of them all. All navigators include basically the same tools,  such as the following functions (the denominations and the icons can vary according to navigators).

 

Back: allows you to return to a previously visited page
Forward:  allows to go to a new page if already visited (allowing you to travel back and forth in pages already visited)
Stop:  stops a page loading
Refresh / Reload: brings a page up to date
Home:  Opens the default page which appears when you launch your navigator


Navigation basics

Internet sites are based on the principle of interconnecting pages with links (also called hypertext links), often a word or a piece of text, but images. The majority of navigators distinguish the links from the rest of the text by using different colours and / or by underlining them, but also by changing the cursor from an arrow to a hand when mousing over the link.

Disneyland® Resort Paris Online is optimized for Netscape Navigator 4 or above or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or above. This site also contains files using the Acrobat Adobe Reader.
Following are the applications of which you need for the Disneyland® Resort Paris Online site:


Netscape Navigator (Navigator):

Netscape Navigator is a multi-media navigator for Internet sites.
To download Netscape Navigator, visit the Netscape site.

Microsoft Internet Explorer (Navigator):
Microsoft Internet Explorer is a multi-media navigator for Internet sites.
To download Microsoft Internet Explorer, visit the Microsoft site.

Adobe Acrobat Reader:
The Adobe Acrobat Reader makes it possible to visualize and print files, like interactive handbooks or cards, whatever the type of computer used.  The Acrobat files are recognizable by their .pdf file extension.

Navigator possibilities

Although optimized for Netscape Navigator, version 4.0 and above and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 and above, Disneyland® Resort Paris Online is visitable with the majority of navigators, like those developed by CompuServe, MSN, AOL.
If you have problems, start by checking the configuration of your navigator. The technical assistance services of the majority of access providers can solve most of your problems.
If you use another navigator, such as NCSA' S, Mosaic, Netcruiser, iCab or Opera, do not hesitate to consult their technical assistance services. You can also consult the Navigators section to download Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.


Displaying images

We advise you to use the 16 bit colour configuration of your computer or above (standard for the majority of the screens) in order to obtain images of good quality.
Consult the documentation supplied with your computer.

When visiting Disneyland® Resort Paris Online, all the links on which you click change colour;  this change remains valid throughout your visit. If you use a different navigator than Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer, consult the instruction manual.


Changing your home page

Make Disneyland® Resort Paris Online your home page!

With Netscape Navigator:  

1.    From Edit select Preferences
2.    In Navigator click on Home Page
3.    Type http://www.disneylandparis.com in Location.
4.    Click on OK


With Microsoft Internet Explorer:

  1.    From Tools select Internet Options
  2.    In General / Home Page Address, type
         http://www.disneylandparis.com
  3.    Click on OK

Plug-ins

Plug-ins are small programs which make it possible to extend the functionalities of a navigator and allow it to display a certain type of content: video (Quicktime), animations (Flash, Shockwave. . . ), certain formats of files, sounds or text (Winamp, Acrobat Reader. . . ). If the navigator that you use is recent, certain plug-ins are perhaps pre-installed, in which case no additional downloading is necessary.

About the navigation bar

The left navigation bar gives you access to the principal sections of this site:

To reach one of these zones, just click on the corresponding title, and you will find yourself on the summary page of the section. Each of the sections has a different look and feel, so it will be easy for you to locate yourself in this vast site and to quickly reach the information you need.

In the Disneyland® Park, Disney® Village and Hotels sections, the left navigation bar is complemented by a navigation bar specific to the section, allowing quick transversal navigation

You will also see that breadcrumbs are used on the top of each page, letting you know where you are in the site.

About navigation within pages

In certain sections, you will find two types of navigation:
  • Drop-down menus - linking to pages within the same section
  • Hypertext links - linking directly to the page concerned
  • Their role varies according to where you are when you click.


    Right-hand navigation
    In section homepages:
    Hypertext navigation (using drop-down menus and hypertext links), placed on the right of screen allow you to go directly to pages within the same section.

    In pages within the same section:
    Access to pages on the same hierarchical level is possible using hypertext links. Drop-down menus allow rapid access back to the section home page or to go directly to home pages of parallel sections.

    Navigation under text:
    Navigation under text offers access to pages at the furthest level down in the Disneyland® Resort Paris site.

    In the Disneyland® Park section, navigation is carried out using classic buttons - just click on them.

    About the "Tools" menu

    A click on "Tools" in the navigation bar of each page of the Disneyland® Resort Paris site opens a pop-up window giving access to functions which will help you use this web site, or to reach specific sections of the site (such as the brochure request or to contact us). In fact. . . if you're reading this, you succeeded in reaching the Help section! Bravo!

    Site plan
    To easily find information in the site, the plan lists all the major sections -  just click on the link and you're there.

    Newsletter
    This zone enables you to register and thus to make yourself known to Disneyland® Resort Paris. Just enter your details and click on Inscription. You will then receive the latest information on the activities at Disneyland® Resort Paris.


    Search
    Search the Disneyland® Resort Paris Online site in its entirety to find the subjects which interest you and to find out about your favourite characters!  In the dialogue box, type the key words referring to the topic you wish to find. For example, if you are fan of Mickey, type Mickey in the box, then click on Search. When the answer appears, you can look at the page of your choice. The answers which you receive are selected according to the occurrence of the key words in a page.

    Let us take the example of Mickey. You will see the list of all the pages in which the word  Mickey appears. From this list of hypertext links, you can select the page which you wish to explore or, if you prefer, you can carry out a new search.

    Brochure request
    If you wish to receive the Disneyland® Resort Paris Brochure, click on  Brochure Request and fill the form. Follow carefully the different steps.

    Contact
    If you wish to send a message to Disneyland® Resort Paris Online, click on Contact. To write your message, start by entering your e-mail address, then type your message in the space reserved. If your message corresponds to a technical question, check the Other box; our team will reply to you as quickly as possible. When your message is ready, just click on Send.

    Ensure that your e-mail address is correct, if it's not correct, we won't be able to answer you! If you do not know it, and if you use Netscape Navigator, you will find it in Edit / Preferences. In the mail and news section, choose Identity and look at Your Address. If you do not manage to find your e-mail address, contact your access provider. For CompuServe users, the e-mail address is in the following format: 123456.1234@compuserve.com. The functions are basically the same with Microsoft Internet Explorer.

    A: Use the Search tool by typing the words which describe best the the object of your search. You will then be able to choose within a list of pages which contain the key words you entered. You can also consult the site plan which enables you to have a quick overview of the contents of the pages on the Disneyland® Resort Paris site.

    2. Q: What is "downloading" and how can I download documents?
    A: To download is a process which makes it possible to copy documents present from the Internet onto your computer. When a document is downloadable on a site, it will either open automatically in your navigator window, or be saved on your computer in the location you choose. If you have the program necessary, you will be able to open the downloaded document at your leisure.

    3. Q: I downloaded a file but I am not able to consult it. What can I do?  
    A: Ensure you that you have the necessary plug-in or program and that it is correctly installed.

    4. Q: After having clicked on a link or having typed the address of a site or a page, my navigator displays an error message. Why?  
    A: There is several possible reasons for an error message: 
    - the address of the page you requested is not correct or does not exist any more (Not found)
    - a page can be out-of-date (Expired)
    - the site's server could be overloaded by too many connections at the same time (Server error)
    - the establishment of a connection to the site server can be abnormally long and results in the navigator abandoning the request (Time out). Therefore, according to the error message which is returned to you: 
    - check that the address of the site or the required page is correct
    - if the expired page is the result of a process or a request, start the procedure again or reformulate your request
    - try to connect later on.


    5. Q: What are cookies and Disneyland® Resort Paris use them on its site?
    A: The cookies are small programs which make it possible to memorize information during your visit of a site or when you fill out various forms. Cookies can make your visit more enjoyable. They can save you the task, for example, of having to repeatedly give the same information during your visit. They can also make it possible to personalize the contents of the pages which you will see and thus better answer your needs. Disneyland® Resort Paris only uses cookies to facilitate your visit.
