The music and group
Juan Formell started to take shape in the beginning
of the 60s, setting the foundations for what was to
be known as la Timba, a new sound that fits somewhere
between salsa and the Cuban Son. A Son that was spiced
up with quite a pinch of jazz. The Van Van represents
today one of the figure heads of Latin American music
and is one of the Cuban groups whose popularity has
not been eroded by time. Juan Formell began his career
surrounded by Guillermo Rubalcaba and Charanga, two
strong personalities from the piano Conservatory in
Cuba. Together with pianist and composer Carlos Faxas,
Juan Formell became the producer of singers such as
Elena Burke. The music of the Van Van has been interpreted
by prestigious groups such as Ruben Blades, Harry Belafonte
or even Ray Barreto and Vicente Valdes. The group can
already boast of some twenty albums. Juan Formell and
the Van Van have performed on all the major international
stages and are back today in Marne la Vallée
three years after their unforgettable concert in Disney
Village in 2001. |
