The name of Pacheco
not only is a synonym of salsa, Fania, and Caribbean
but above all of sabrosura. A man who has always defended
the Latino cause, he has dabbled, since 1951, in all
the nooks and niches of the rumba, the mambo, Latino
jazz… He has been a percussionist, flutist, clarinet
player, a member of the choir, dancer, composer, impresario,
producer…his name is intimately linked to the
history of New York Latino music. Johnny Pacheco was
born in the Dominican Republic on 25 March 1935 and
emigrated to New York in the beginning of the 50s. There,
thanks to his talented music versatility, he started
to play in the orchestras of Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez,
Xavier Cugat and Stan Kenton among others. Under Pacheco’s
brilliant management, the artists of la Fania All Stars
largely contributed to let salsa conquer the world.
Johnny Pacheco, «El Maestro», has left his
seal on the history of music, with 9 nominations to
the Grammy Awards, 10 gold records, uncountable rewards
and international distinctions. He is a pioneer, an
innovator and a living legend who will perform on stage
in France after an absence of 4 years. He appears today
with one of his favourite musicians, Ismael Miranda
whom we have not had the pleasure of seeing in France
for… thirty years! |
