Eliades Ochoa is
an emblematic figure in Cuban music, and can boast of
a completely flawless career. This simple cow-boy from
Santiago succeeded in doing the unbelievable by having
his album «Sublime Ilusion» nominated in
the Grammy Awards, in the «Best interpretation
of a traditional tropical album» category. A shy,
Cuban peasant, Eliades Ochoa took control in 1978 of
the Cuarteto Patria group, that had already existed
for forty years, and led it to international fame. From
its origin, the group saw prestigious names cross its
path, such as Compay Segundo, Reinaldo Hierrezulo, Manu
Dibango, Ry Cooder and Charlie Musselwhite…. But
Eliades Ochoa is above all one of the stars of the «Buena
Vista Social Club» phenomenon, for which he received
a Grammy award. A vocal artist and guitarist, Eliades
Ochoa has worked with many groups during his career,
including the Septeto Cubano, the Casa de la Trova and
the Cuarteto Patria, with whom he recorded two albums.
With the help of traditional Cuban music which he masters
so well, Eliades Ochoa will unveil for the public the
Cuban countryside and mountains in order to share with
the spectators the celebration of the Son, the Guaracha
and the Boléro. |
